Since 2007, the Splash Pad Project has been on our planning agendas. Our desire to create a legacy for the community and to provide a catalyst for development initiatives in the Downtown-Waterfront area. This Project for “Kids from 2 to 102" will be fully accessible to all!
Splash Pads offer many benefits. Healthy active living, socialization of children, inter-generational participation, affordable recreation, the creation of a local destination for tourists, residents and visitors, just to name a few. Some highlights of the proposed Project itself: 1. Splash Pad approximately 6,000 sq. ft. in size located behind the North Bay Museum (as per the Downtown-Waterfront Master Plan). 2. 3 zones > toddlers, family area, and older children or youth. 3. Landscaping and shelter structures for individuals and families to monitor play and give children a respite from the sun. 4. Informal estimates for the total Project are around $650,000 excluding taxes, which includes site preparation and a funding towards permanent washroom/changeroom facilities.
‘North Bay's Family of Rotary’ has already committed $250,000 towards this project. We will be seeking matching dollars (or better) from the Provincial and Federal governments and we have an ambitious campaign in the works regarding local fundraising, sponsorship and donations to make up the balance. Online donations will be accepted through CanadaHelps, which will also facilitate the donation of securities and provided instant tax receipts (link to be posted soon). The donation of securities (stocks, mutual funds, bonds etc.) will allow the selling price of those securities to qualify for a charitable tax receipt without having to contend with the tax implications of a capital gain.
